The internship program at Bergstrom Inc. provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment and to support/promote the graduate's career goals through contact with professionals in their field of study. The internship experience enables students to participate in professional activities for Bergstrom's engineering department by working on important and innovative projects. Internships are structured learning experiences where interns and our full time professionals work together on projects within their selected department. The internship allows students to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the student and Bergstrom's Engineering department.

Responsible for assisting their assigned department with accomplishing tasks and projects that help meet departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Must be a hands-on individual with demonstrated ability to lead projects and the ability to solve problems using structured methods and attention to detail in process characterizations and documentation.


  • Complete tasks on the computer using Microsoft Office programs including: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Capability to learn new software including: Creo, CFD, JDE and FEA
  • Recognize problems which are beyond the intern's capabilities and learn from the subject matter experts in the department
  • Providing support to assigned department to achieve departmental goals and objectives
  • Manage specials projects as assigned
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks at one time
  • Complete intern work plan in its entirely by the end of the semester

  • Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelors or Master's degree (or equivalent technical degree) at an accredited school
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8
  • Applicants must be willing to work at our Rockford, IL headquarters
  • Applicants must have strong background in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Applicants must maintain excellent attendance throughout the internship

Performance Ability:

Ability to perform the essential functions in a satisfactory manner or demonstrate satisfactory progress within 3 months from the date of hire

Physical Demands:

  • Light to medium physical effort may be required
  • Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility to follow established procedures

Work Environment:

  • Occasional exposure to laboratory elements such as noise, dust, odors and fumes
  • Certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, specified shoe requirements and mandatory hearing protection
  • Knowledge of applicable safety precautions, first aid and proper use of tools and equipment
