New Product Introduction (NPI) Supply Chain Engineer

The New Product Introduction (NPI) Supply Chain Engineer is responsible for planning, organizing and supervising the comprehensive purchasing for new products in compliance with Bergstrom Specifications, drawings, business processes and any mandated State and/or Federal Regulatory requirements. The NPI Supply Chain Engineer will assist the NPI Purchasing Manager in the activities related to the quotation and purchase of new components and products in support of Bergstrom's NPI projects. This involves communicating drawings, component requirements, product specifications, commercial agreements, responding to inquiries on bid status and negotiate terms & conditions with vendors and/or service providers. For select commodities (sheet metal parts/fabrications and injection molded parts) the New Product Introduction Supply Chain Engineer will maintain and run Apiori cost modeling software for new parts being sourced to outside suppliers and as a make/buy decision on existing parts being considered for insourcing and/or resourcing. Additionally, this position will maintain customers and Bergstrom owned tooling lists and data associated with those assets.



  • Compile data from a wide variety of sources for the purpose of analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with a wide variety of purchasing policies and procedures and monitoring purchasing processes.
  • Analyze and update product ordering controls to reflect changes in demand and BOM content
  • Communicate with vendors on drawings, component requirements, tolerances and product specifications, responding to inquiries regarding process or bid status and negotiate terms and conditions with vendors and/or service providers
  • Use Apiori, a cost modeling software, to help control cost on purchased products
  • Issue purchase orders and make changes to the orders to ensure timely delivery of materials and PPAP's
  • Ensure that assigned HVAC components are purchased at a competitive price including the freight and handling, in specified quantity and quality and in a timely manner
  • Initiate follow-up and expedite on critical components
  • Meet with vendors to gain commitment and understanding of requirements, negotiate vendor pricing, lead time, return options, etc.
  • Serves as liaison with Engineering and vendors to ensure purchasing requirements are met
  • Identifies requirements for suppliers and criteria for procurement
  • Ability to read and understand engineering blueprints and drawings and communicate accordingly
  • Computer knowledge and skills as it relates to procurement and the ability to learn our business systems
  • Competent in Microsoft Windows, Project, Word and Excel
  • Ability to break complex tasks or problems by breaking them down into their smallest component parts


  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Engineering or related field and/or comparable knowledge and experience
  • A mix of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum 1-5 years experience in Purchasing, Planning, Sales or Engineering
