Bergstrom Inc., global leader in the design and supply of climate systems to the commercial vehicle industry, recently celebrated the production of its 50,000th NITE no-idle system. This translates to approximately 189.5 million gallons of fuel saved by NITE users across the world.

The 50,000th unit – a NITE Phoenix no-idle system – was part of an order from Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc (ADS), a manufacturer of corrugated polyethylenedrainagepipe products.Based in Hilliard, Ohio ADS has 53 manufacturing plants and 24 distribution centers. The Phoenix system was sold through Ohio-based Stykemain Trucks, Inc. and installed at the Fontaine Modification Center in conjunction with Bergstrom team members.

"This achievement far surpasses the production pace of our competitors, illustrating the high demand for Bergstrom’s NITE units in the marketplace. It was only two years ago that we celebrated the production of the 30,000th unit,” said Bill Gordon, vice president aftermarket and NITE sales. "Our team is very proud of this milestone and our contributions towards reducing harmful emissions and improving driver comfort on the road.”

In production since 2003, the NITE no-idle system has become the undisputed leader in battery-operated systems that are both factory-installed and aftermarket units. The system helps drivers all across the world remain comfortable while adhering to anti-idling regulation. In addition to the NITE Phoenix, Bergstrom also manufactures its signature NITE Plus and NITE Day Cab units, as well as a number of private-label no-idle systems.

As a battery-powered system, the NITE solution can reduce the average truck’s fuel usage by as much as 3,790 gallons a year, and save the owner more than $15,353 per truck, per year in reduced fuel costs and maintenance, based on diesel prices of $4 per gallon, 6-cylinder engine, 1,000 idling RPM, eight idling hours per day, 300 days per year (Reference: epa.gov.).

The 50,000th unit was manufactured on the company’s assembly line in Rockford, Ill. The assembly line incorporates state-of-the-art technologies, such as MicroFlow system leak detection and Human Machine Interface (HMI) monitors that display ProE CAD models and standardized work instructions for all NITE models produced on the line.
