Buyer Assistant/Analyst

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Buyer Assistant/Analyst at Bergstrom is responsible for purchasing products for the company. Duties include the requisite to understand company needs based on stock, inventory, projects, costing and plans as well as the understanding of general sales and market trends according to the HVAC industry. Responsible for the development of successful relationships with suppliers, distributors and manufacturers while ensuring that the required products are always in stock.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Analyze inventory position along with the current sales trends to make accurate buying decisions.
  • Analyze and update product ordering controls to reflect changes in demand.
  • Anticipate and identify trends in the HVAC industry or marketplace and develop plans to prepare for opportunities or problems.
  • Use computer reports to analyze data to reduce and eliminate all corporate surplus inventories.
  • Issue purchase orders and make appropriate changes to the orders to ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Ensure that assigned HVAC components are purchased at the lowest price including the freight and handling, in specified quantity and quality and in a timely manner.
  • Initiate follow-up and expedite all purchase orders.
  • Work with other department personnel to schedule appropriate delivery.
  • Use current reporting tools available to assist in the disposal of obsolete inventories.
  • Meet with vendors to negotiate vendor pricing, lead time, return options, etc.
  • Conforms to the environmental management system requirements.
  • Working with the Cost Accountant on pricing and JDE updates.
  • Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups and macros)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor Degree in business or related field and/or comparable knowledge and experience
  • Minimum 2-5 years experience in Sales, Marketing, Finance and/or Accounting
  • Knowledge of HVAC components
  • Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal formats
  • Computer knowledge and skills related to procurement and with the ability to learn our business system
  • Competent in Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel
  • Ability to break complex tasks or problems by breaking them down into their smallest component parts and consider each part in detail
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
