JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Manufacturing Engineer for Fabrications and Plastics is responsible for sheet metal fabrication and plastics equipment specification and process design solutions for the manufacture of components for the production of vehicle HVAC assemblies. Utilizes advanced product/process quality planning tools to effectively design processes, specify tooling U equipment. Develops CNC programs and routing operations for each manufacturing process step. Develops work instructions for all aspects of the fabrication process. Supports current production processes including continual improvement of safety, quality, cost delivery and environmental performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Core Activities:
- Develop DXF files used for programming and ICS files using AutoCad and Pro Engineer (Creo).
- Utilize Amada based software for CNC programming and ICS file creation.
- Work closely with Design Engineers to ensure the best designs for manufacture.
- Maintain routings in MRP based on latest production data.
- Lead development of Process Flow, PFMEA starting from early product design concepts.
- Identify and document manufacturing process design inputs such as special characteristics, customer requirements, targets for productivity, capability, timing a cost, etc.
- Develop production process design in parallel with the product design cycle ensuring product is designed for manufacture/assembly through concept, prototype and detailed design phases.
- Document manufacturing process design outputs in a manner that enables verification against the manufacturing design inputs such as process/equipment specifications and drawings, PFlow, PFMEA, standard work instructions, results of error proofing, etc.
- Manage project implementation of production process including budget creation and approval, timing, equipment purchase, installation, pre-production builds and process validation.
- Manage process changes through rigorous adherence to the Product/Process Change Process.
- Review the impact on PFlow and PFMEA; update and take necessary risk mitigation actions.
- Plan pre-launch build event and confirm process readiness and capability through statistical means and documentation.
- Communicate with production team post launch to ensure ongoing success.
- Respond to current production issues including maintenance support if needed.
- With a cross functional team evaluate top problems, determine root cause, recommend and implement permanent corrective actions.
- With urgency, respond to production line stoppages ensuring rapid resolution.
- Map processes in a manner which visualizes process constraints, non-value add and waste.
- Engage with production team to identify and implement improvements respond to CI ideas of others and assist with implementation.
- Benchmark best practices and latest technologies and integrates into new and improvement projects.
- Support improvement of 5s Performance.
- Work on special projects as assigned.
Safety and Environmental responsibilities including:
- Responsible for conforming to all environmental & safety management system requirements.
- Ensure all process designs are safe paying particular attention to ergonomics.
- Consider environmental aspects during different phases of work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- 3-5 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication industry
- Competency in ProE, Creo, 3D Modeling or equivalent
- Basic AutoCad skillset
- Experience with data entry and management with the MRP system
- Engineering bachelor's degree<
- Experience in CNC programming of punch, lase, press break equipment
- Industrial Engineering skill set
- Use of Advanced Product Quality planning tools
- Experience in successful production launches
- Must be computer literate and have familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software
Preferred:
- Experience with new and older Amada equipment
- Knowledge in MIG/TICG, brazing and spot welding operations
- Lean methods practitioner
- Automation and robotics
- Powder coating
- Ergonomics
- Strong project management skills
