"Run on Less” initiative to culminate at inaugural North American Commercial Vehicle (NACV) show in Atlanta Sept. 24 to 28
Three of the seven Class 8 trucks that are part of the "Run on Less” initiative to showcase fuel efficiency in long-haul trucking are equipped with the ParkSmart® no-idle system, a factory-installed option for Cascadia trucks that is manufactured by Bergstrom.
The initiative – organized by Shell, PepsiCo, the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) and Carbon War Room (CWR) – seeks to demonstrate how Class 8 trucks can use different technologies to achieve the best fuel economy possible. The three-week experience will culminate at a press event Sept. 24 during the inaugural North American Commercial Vehicle (NACV) show in Atlanta.
"As a leader in the no-idle marketplace, we’re proud to be a sponsor of Run on Less,” said Bergstrom President and CEO Jack Shaffer. "Improving fuel efficiency in the trucking industry is a cause that’s near and dear to our heart and we’re excited to be able to share the total dollars and gallons saved as a result of idle reduction technologies such as our NITE system when the run finishes Sept. 24.”
Run on Less features seven Class 8 trucks that are using current, commercially available technologies while hauling real freight around the country. The trucks are equipped with different efficiency technologies to demonstrate how to achieve the best fuel economy in today’s highway tractors.
With a goal of achieving 9.0 MPG or more, the technologies fitted to the trucks range from 6x2s and automated transmissions to no-idle systems and other technologies that assist with improved fuel efficiency. The battery-powered ParkSmart® no-idle system – a unit manufactured by Bergstrom – is installed on the Albert Transport, Inc., Nussbaum and US Xpress, Inc. Cascadia trucks.
Driver progress, as well as the dollars and carbon emissions saved, are tracked and reported in real time on the Run on Less website at www.runonless.com.
The Run on Less press conference will take place Sunday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. at the NACV show in Atlanta.
