JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Quality Engineer provides direction and guidance to other disciplines to ensure excellence of Bergstrom's products. This is a role for a highly motivated individual that excels at working with others to resolve quality hurdles, having a direct impact on the development of process and business controls. The Quality Engineer represents the voice of the customer listening to the voice of the process to ensure customer requirements/expectation are achieved. At Bergstrom the Quality Engineers have an active role influencing the business performance and supervising their direct team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Core Activities:
- Responsible for interpreting and ensuring compliance to customer, regulatory and/or design requirements.
- Communicate customer scorecards, reporting and resolving issues of concern.
- Statistical process analysis including the initiation and management of SPC.
- Participate in identification of new inspection, measurement or test equipment and training plans for quality staff.
- Participate in the development, review and revision of Quality Management Systems (QMS) procedures, instructions and other documentation.
- Coordinate/Participate in internal, customer and third-party audits.
- Facilitate teams with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Establish relationships with customers to ensure a high level of support and responsiveness.
- Participate in new product development, including design specification review, risk assessment, determining inspection methods, measurement system and capability studies, developing control plans.
- Preparation and submission of PPAP documentation.
- Coordinate and participate in continuous improvement activities.
- Provide mentorship to Quality Technicians and Inspectors.
- Light to medium physical effort may be required.
- Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility to follow established procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Statistical techniques
- General concepts (sampling, distributions, etc.)
- Calculations (CpK, PpK, PPM, etc.)
- Initiation, management of statistical process controls
- Measurement and test equipment (M&TE)
- AIAG core tools (APQP, MSA, PPAP, SPC, FMEA)
- Engineering drawing interpretation (practical application, GD&T)
- Statistical process control and validation (SPC & MSA)
- Inspection concepts, techniques and processes (use of tools and equipment)
- Quality audits
- Audit types
- Audit components
- Tools and techniques
- Preventative and corrective action
- Corrective action types (8D, A3, etc.)
- Root cause identification tools (fishbone diagram, 5 why, etc.)
- Knowledge of basic computer skills for data entry and to operate testing equipment
- Ability to read and comprehend work instructions utilized to assemble HVAC units
- Ability to properly complete/audit assembly related documentation including First Piece Inspection form, deviations, quality alerts and red tag process
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
PREFERRED:
- Experience with quality management systems (ISO, TS) and customer quality systems.
- ASQ CQE
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology or Quality Assurance or a related field or a minimum of 5 years experience or and equivalent combination of training and experience
- In addition, must possess strong analytical skills and experience with:
- PC and peripherals
- JDE or other MRP systems
- Gauges and inspections
